Review: Legally Blonde The Musical – Find Your Light Theatre Productions

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Legally Blonde the musical is the classic Reese Witherspoon chick flick brought to life with fun catchy songs and energetic choreography. Find Your Light, A 31-piece cast of 11-22-year-olds from all over Scotland came together for their first production, and what a way to launch their programme.

Find Your Light is a new intensive summer program offering 11-22-year-olds the chance to learn and perform musical theatre on a professional stage coached by experienced creatives. The program is run over just 2 weeks giving the cast and crew limited time to learn and perfect the show and impressively they nailed it.

The cast was led by Maggi Boyd as Elle Woods. At just 17 years old Maggi is a superstar in the making with beautiful vocals, flawless dancing (in heels) and sassy and lovable characterisation with perfect comedic timing. She is a powerhouse and was born to be a leading lady on the stage.

Maggi was supported on stage by a cast filled to the brim with talent and infectious energy including her onstage best friends and Delta Nu Greek chorus. Stella White played Paulette and brought a hilarious stage presence and energy to the role.

Professor Callahan played by Sonido Kofi Sewornu was a stand-out performance along with Maggi.  Bringing smooth vocals and demanding stage presence he owned the stage during “Blood in the Water”

This production made clever use of the stage and surrounding areas throughout the performance and this added to the energetic dance numbers making it feel like a big party. Although they suffered from a few technical issues on the night the cast did not let this affect their performances at all and handled this very professionally.

Find Your Light is a great addition to the Edinburgh youth theatre scene and I can’t wait to see what is next for them and their talented cast.
