“a visually immersive experience and make this a must-see production.”

I recently had the pleasure of attending Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in Wembley, London. After a 22-year hiatus, this cult classic has returned with a bang, featuring a custom-built starlight auditorium, reimagined costumes, new songs, and more.
The show’s premise revolves around a child’s train set that magically comes to life as the trains compete to become the fastest in the world. What sets this production apart is the high-speed choreography, iconic songs, fast-paced storytelling, and vibrant costumes, all performed on roller skates. It truly is a spectacular sight to behold.
The cast of 40 is a powerhouse of talent and infectious energy. Professional skate and scooter riders, including “skate marshal” Charlie Russell, Jamie Addison, and Dante Hutchinson, execute jaw-dropping tricks and stunts throughout the show, adding a new dimension to the skating and race scenes.
Eve Humphery’s portrayal of “Dihna” is a standout performance characterised by her sassy, quirky, comedic, and confident stage presence, coupled with powerhouse vocals. Similarly, Ashlyn Weekes, covering the role of “Pearl,” delivers stunning raw vocals with an air of innocence, delivering a truly spellbinding performance.
The production’s set design, lighting, and staging are a visual feast, fully immersing the audience in the world of Starlight Express. The stunning, futuristic, and vibrant costumes by Gabrielle Slade add another layer of visual appeal to the overall experience.
