✨ Introduction

Bare Productions, the Edinburgh-based company known for delivering amateur theatre with professional polish, brings the house down with their electrifying take on Rock of Ages. This 80s jukebox musical is a riot of glam rock, big hair, and even bigger vocals, featuring hits from Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Journey, and more.

🎤 Performance Highlights

Leading the charge is Sam Eastop as Lonny, the show’s narrator and comedic heartbeat. With effortless charisma and impeccable timing, Eastop delivers the show’s funniest lines with flair, keeping the audience laughing and engaged throughout. Joshua Scott as Drew impresses with powerful rock vocals, belting and controlled screams that never miss a beat. His chemistry with Georgia Brennan (Sherrie) is a joy to watch, their harmonies and romantic arc adding warmth to the wild ride. A true standout is Ryan Livingstone as Stacee Jaxx. His portrayal of the self-indulgent rock star is both hilariously over-the-top and vocally slick, stealing scenes with every swagger and smirk.

💃 Ensemble & Staging

The ensemble numbers are bursting with energy, and it’s clear that every cast member is fully invested in the performance. Felicity Hannah’s choreography is not only tight and dynamic but also cleverly tailored to the personalities of the characters, allowing each performer to shine while maintaining a cohesive group presence. From synchronized dance breaks to spontaneous rock-out moments, the movement on stage feels organic and exhilarating. The staging makes excellent use of the small limited space at Paradise at Augustines, with slick transitions and vibrant blocking that keeps the audience visually engaged. Whether it’s a full-cast anthem or a cheeky background gag, the ensemble elevates every scene with infectious enthusiasm and precision.

🎶 Music & Atmosphere

Finlay Turnbull’s musical direction ensures that the soundtrack is more than just a nostalgic playlist—it’s the beating heart of the production. Each iconic track is delivered with punch and polish, capturing the raw emotion and rebellious spirit of 80s rock. From the soaring ballads that tug at the heartstrings to the fist-pumping anthems that get the crowd moving, the musical atmosphere is electric. Lighting and sound design complement the score beautifully, creating a concert-like experience that immerses the audience in the world of rock ‘n’ roll.

🎉 Final Thoughts

This production is, quite simply, “nothing but a good time.” Bare Productions has managed to capture the essence of Rock of Ages—its humour, heart, and high-voltage energy—and deliver it with style and confidence. The cast’s chemistry, the creative team’s vision, and the sheer joy radiating from the stage make this a standout show at the Fringe. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of 80s rock or just looking for a night of feel-good theatre, this is a production that will leave you smiling, singing, and maybe even dancing in the aisles. It’s witty, wild, and wonderfully entertaining—a true celebration of music, mischief, and the magic of live performance.
