🎭The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical

⭐⭐⭐⭐

– A Bolt of Energy with a Dash of Chaos! ⚡

Hold onto your tridents, folks, because Percy Jackson has officially crash-landed in Edinburgh, and it’s a wild, fast-paced ride from start to finish! Adapted from Rick Riordan’s best-selling novel, this musical is aimed squarely at the teenage crowd—and it knows it. Think campfire songs, disco numbers, and a whole lot of monster mayhem.

Let’s start with the good stuff (and there’s plenty): Vasco Emauz is Percy Jackson. No, really—he’s got the charm, the angst, and the vocals to carry this demigod quest on his capable shoulders. The cast as a whole? Phenomenal. Powerful vocals, boundless energy, and a sense of camaraderie that makes you want to jump on stage and join the quest yourself.

The staging is clever, especially when it comes to the monsters. There’s a scrappy inventiveness to it all—think illusions, shadow play, and some seriously fun surprises. The campfire song is a toe-tapping highlight, and the disco number “DOA” is a full-on glitter bomb of fabulousness. It gave me Spooky Mormon Hell Dream vibes in the best possible way.

But let’s talk about pacing. The first half feels like it’s missing a spark—like the gods were holding back a bit. It’s easy to follow, sure, but it doesn’t quite hit the emotional beats you’d expect. Then BAM! The second half races through the story like Hermes on espresso. It’s thrilling, but also a little crammed—blink and you’ll miss a plot twist.

The songs are fun, catchy, and full of sass, though a few do start to blur together. And while the energy is sky-high, some lyrics get lost in the mix—especially when the cast is belting their hearts out mid-battle.

What really shines through, though, is the message. This show proudly declares that normal is a myth. Percy’s journey is a celebration of difference—of being weird, wild, and wonderfully unique. Whether you’re half-human, half-god, or just figuring yourself out, this musical reminds you that being different isn’t just okay—it’s epic.

With over 20 years of books, films, and now a Disney series behind it, this stage adaptation brings the magic to life with heart, humour, and a whole lot of lightning.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Just maybe bring a pair of winged shoes to keep up.

Suzzi’s Spotlight Verdict: A thunderous romp through Greek mythology with disco balls, demigods, and a whole lot of heart. Not perfect, but undeniably fun—and a powerful reminder that being different is your greatest superpower.
