“Cher-tastic! Allegro Edinburgh Brings Sequins, Sass, and Star Power“
📅 Tue, 11 Nov 2025 – Sat, 15 Nov 2025
📍 Church Hill Theatre, Morningside Road, Edinburgh EH10 4DR

From the very first beat, The Cher Show bursts onto the stage in a glittering explosion of music, attitude, and unapologetic glamour. Allegro Edinburgh’s production doesn’t just tell the story of Cher—it invites you into her world, a world of resilience, reinvention, and fierce individuality. This isn’t a simple jukebox musical; it’s a vibrant journey through the highs and lows of an icon’s life, told with heart, humor, and a whole lot of sequins.
Three Chers, One Story
The concept is clever and beautifully executed: Cher’s life is split into three distinct personas—Babe, Lady, and Star—each representing a different chapter of her evolution. These three versions of Cher share the stage, interacting and reflecting on the choices that shaped her career and personal life. It’s a dynamic storytelling device that gives the audience a deeper sense of her struggles and triumphs.
- Babe (Emma Clarkson) is the wide-eyed dreamer, full of hope and innocence. Her vocals are astonishing—bigger than her frame—and her journey from naïve newcomer to rising star is a joy to watch.
- Lady (Zoe Murray) steps in as the rising star, and wow—what a performance. Her voice is rich and powerful, and her rendition of Bang Bang is a goosebump-inducing highlight.
- Star (Cathy Geddie), the established diva, commands the stage with confidence and charisma. Geddie’s vocals are so close to Cher’s that you could close your eyes and believe you’re hearing the real thing.
Standout Performances
The chemistry between Cher and Sonny (Joe Purcell) is another highlight. Purcell plays Sonny as a lovable rogue—a man you can’t help but adore even as you grow frustrated with him. Their complex relationship is portrayed with nuance, making their scenes together some of the most compelling moments in the show.
The ensemble deserves its own spotlight. High-energy numbers like Bang Bang and Ain’t Nobody’s Business If I Do are electrifying, bursting with dynamic choreography and clever staging. Laura Green’s debut as choreographer is bold and exciting—every move feels alive and purposeful, adding layers of storytelling through dance.
Visuals & Design
Visually, the show is a feast. The costume design is nothing short of spectacular, paying homage to Cher’s iconic fashion moments throughout her career. From glittering jumpsuits to daring Bob Mackie-inspired gowns, every look is a love letter to the diva’s fearless style. The clever use of live video feed during key numbers adds intimacy and drama, drawing the audience closer to pivotal moments in Cher’s journey.
And let’s not forget Hannah Barnetson’s solo as the “Dark Lady”—sultry, smooth, and utterly electric. It’s one of those performances that lingers long after the curtain falls.

Allegro Edinburgh proves that amateur theatre can deliver professional-level sparkle. This production isn’t just a tribute—it’s a full-throttle celebration of a legend. If you’re a Cher fan (or simply love a great night at the theatre), The Cher Show is an absolute must-see.

I left the theatre humming “Believe” and grinning from ear to ear—this show is pure joy.
