Single on valentine’s 💋

Being single over valentine’s day can be extra lonely and make you feel like your missing something , when In fact it can be a chance to celebrate the love in your life that comes from other places like your friends, family and even your self love too.

This year I am single for the first time since going through a break up and I would be lying if is said I was fine about it. It’s very difficult when everywhere you look there are reminders of what you don’t have anymore. It’s like a constant slap in the face or like the universe is laughing at you.

So instead of dwelling on the loss of a relationship and what I’m missing I have decided to celebrate what I have and the love that surrounds me every day.

Instead, this year I will use valentine’s day to remind myself that I’m not alone and that I am loved and you don’t have to be in a romantic relationship to feel this way. I will also use valentine’s day to remind my loved ones that they are loved too and reach out to my single friends to let them know they are not alone.

Ways that you can celebrate alternative valentine’s day with me include:

Reaching out to a friend

February can be though enough without the unrealistic expectations and pressures that come with valentine’s day. And 2021 had to take that further by adding a global pandemic into the mix. So reach out to a friend by sending a letter, text or scheduling a video call with them and reminding them they are not alone.

Plan a night In

Buy yourself a nice dinner, dress up and have a nice drink with friends over video call, you can add in a quiz or watch your favourite film together over the internet make it a virtual girl’s night to celebrate galantine’s.

Surprise a loved one

Remind a loved one how much they mean to you by sending some flowers, cooking them dinner or sending them an anonymous card. Help remind them they are loved and someone’s thinking of them during these tough times

Self-care

Remember to take time for yourself and have a self-care day. Fill the day with your favourite things and make room for some me time. You can do this by having a bath, reading a book, listen to your favourite music or podcast, try some mindfulness.

Treat yourself

You don’t need to wait for someone to buy you flowers, buy them yourself and show yourself some love. Use the money you would spend on someone else to buy yourself something you really want. To me love from me xoxo

How are you going to be spending the 14th? Valentines, galentine’s or just another day?

However, you chose to celebrate remember to show yourself some love and kindness too.

  3. Before getting married or seriously dating, I would treat myself, like you mention. I think its important to give ourselves the type of love and attention we hope to have from a partner. Reading and self care activities like baths and spa time were always some of my favorite things to do.

  11. This will be my first Valentine’s Day since the divorce. I am not looking forward to it, but I will survive because like you (and Parks and Rec) put it so well – “TREAT YO’SELF!”
