Legally Blonde – UK Tour Review

His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Legally Blonde returns to UK stages with a burst of colour, confidence, and charm — marking the first major professional tour since 2017/18. Based on the beloved 2001 film, this refreshed production brings a modern twist while keeping all the heart, humour, and iconic pink energy fans adore.

🎭 Performances

Amber Davies as Elle Woods

Amber Davies leads the company with a performance full of warmth, vulnerability, and spark. She charts Elle’s journey from underestimated sorority girl to empowered law student with clarity and heart. Her vocals soar through the score, and her comic timing brings the character’s humour to life without ever losing the sincerity at the centre of Elle’s story. It’s a portrayal that honours the original while confidently standing on its own.

George Crawford as Emmett

George Crawford’s Emmett is instantly endearing. His natural chemistry with Amber makes their scenes feel grounded and heartfelt, and he radiates charm throughout.

George’s vocal ability and gentle stage presence give Emmett the emotional anchor that supports Elle’s transformation, making their partnership one of the show’s most rewarding elements.

Lauren Hampton as Brooke Windham (Swing)

Swing Lauren Hampton stepped into the role of Brooke Windham at this performance — and delivered a standout moment of the night.

“Whipped Into Shape” is famously one of the most demanding numbers in musical theatre, and Lauren tackled it with impressive vocal clarity and athletic stamina. Her command of the stage made the number electric.

Ensemble

The ensemble is packed with talent, bringing tight choreography, strong vocals, and plenty of sass. Their energy keeps the show vibrant and fast‑paced, adding layers of humour and heart to every scene.

🎨 Staging & Costume Design

Modernised Aesthetic

This production embraces a modernised look, and I’ll admit I was initially worried that the updates might take away some of the nostalgia and iconic feel of the original film and earlier stage versions.

But it proved me wrong.

The design team strikes a clever balance between fresh contemporary styling and early‑00s nostalgia. The colour palette remains rooted in Elle’s signature pink, but the silhouettes and textures feel updated, polished, and fashion‑forward.

Costumes

Elle’s wardrobe blends modern trends with classic references — structured blazers, bold pink tailoring, and playful accessories that nod to her Delta Nu roots.

The supporting cast also benefits from thoughtful costume choices:

🩷 Harvard students in crisp, minimalist neutrals

🩷 Delta Nu girls in vibrant pops of colour

🩷 Brooke’s fitness‑instructor aesthetic sharpened with sleek athleisure and prison jumpsuits

It’s cohesive, character‑driven, and visually fun.

Set & Lighting

The set appears simplified at first glance, but the clever use of lighting and transitions brings Elle’s world vividly to life.

Scene changes glide smoothly from Delta Nu to Harvard, using colour shifts, moving panels, and dynamic lighting to create contrast between Elle’s bright, bubbly identity and the structured academic environment she steps into.

Overall Visual Impact

It’s colourful, lively, and relentlessly positive — a production that celebrates joy, empowerment, and finding your voice through its visual storytelling as much as its performances.

🐾 Bruiser & Rufus

Bruiser and Rufus were undeniable audience favourites, stealing focus every time they trotted onstage. Their tiny bursts of personality — from Bruiser’s confident strut to Rufus’ gentle, wide‑eyed charm — added an extra layer of humour and heart to the production.

They didn’t just appear; they featured, bringing adorable sass, perfect comedic timing, and that irresistible “aww” factor that had the whole theatre smiling.

🏅Verdict

Legally Blonde’s latest UK tour is a vibrant, feel-good celebration of confidence, friendship, and staying true to yourself. With standout performances, clever modernisation, and a whole lot of heart, it’s a production that leaves you smiling long after the final bow.
